| Ivy Porter is first to receive assistance from Kickin' Cancer in Sublette County. |
On June 2003, Ivy Porter of Big Piney, age three, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and began a treatment that would take two years to complete. The tragedy has deeply affected not just Ivy, but her whole family - parents Karl and Liz and older brother Tanner. Adding to the emotional stress, cost of treatment and the exhausting protocol of caring for a family member stricken with cancer are the high costs of travel and lodging to and from Salt Lake City, where Ivy receives her treatment. Kickin' Cancer has helped the Porter family with these costs.
Update 2/05 On the 17th of February Ivy had her 5th birthday. She is still undergoing chemo therapy treatments, but should be done by the end of the summer. Because of a side effect from the kemo therapy Ivy is going to have cataract surgy, but her spirits are high, she is going to school and doing very well. The family has all pulled together and they too are doing good. This summer they plan to have a kids day at the fair grounds to raise funds, but not for themselves. Everything that is raised is going back to the organization that has helped them, Kickin' Cancer. "I love them tremendously,(Kickin' Cancer) all of them." Liz Porter added. "They have really saved our hides." |
